Joshua Higgins from Carphone Warehouse in Kettering has beaten competitors from every major UK retailer to be crowned Shop Idol 2018.

The annual competition, which in 2018 ran for its 14th year takes place over six months and features mystery shops, votes, live challenges, tests and interviews to find the ultimate mobile sales person.

The winner announcement took place at the Mobile Industry Awards at The Brewery in London in a glittering ceremony on 7th June and really was the highlight of the evening. It was safe to say that this was the award that got the most cheers from the 400 guests in the room.

The Shop Idol runners up also recognised on the evening were April Marzuoli from Carphone Warehouse Luton and Sean Taylor from Carphone Warehouse Belfast, as well as Jackie Newman from Vodafone Lakeside, Daniel Nutt from O2 Sheffield and Matthew Clarke from EE Stoke-on-Trent.

Competition judge and UK Editor-in-Chief of Techradar Gareth Beavis described why Joshua is Shop Idol 2018:

“The standard this year was honestly incredibly high, and we judges had the unenviable task of choosing the winner. The final six all deserved the title for one reason or another, and picking from our final three was an even bigger task! Joshua excelled in all the challenges put in front of him, and we all agreed he was one step ahead of the rest and therefore a well-deserved winner of Shop Idol 2018. As one of the top six last year it was great to see him come back for another go this year... we're certainly hoping to see the finalists come and do the same in 2019!”
